IRS Tax Resolution

IRS Tax Resolution & Representation

Facing an IRS or state tax problem is stressful, and the wrong response can make it worse. An Enrolled Agent at Arc & Ledger has full rights to represent you before the IRS: we read your transcripts, deal with the notices, and work toward the resolution that fits your case. You are not doing this alone, and you are not talking to a call center.

Sending a request is free and carries no commitment. Scope and fee are confirmed in writing.

In short: If you received an IRS notice or owe back taxes, an Enrolled Agent can represent you directly before the IRS in audits, appeals, and collections. We offer a flat-fee $249 notice review, credited toward full representation, and handle payment plan requests, penalty abatement requests, and offer in compromise evaluations.

What's Included

  • Power of attorney, transcript pull, and a review of your situation
  • A recommended resolution path (installment agreement, penalty abatement, or offer, as the facts support)
  • Representation before the IRS

Timing: Scope and timing are confirmed in writing before an engagement begins.

Not included:

  • Any tax, penalty, or offer amount paid to the IRS
  • Return preparation for unfiled years (separate)

The Problem

What an IRS Notice Can Lead To

A letter from the IRS can be the start of a longer process. If a balance stays unpaid, collection can move from notices to a federal tax lien, a levy on a bank account or wages, and penalties and interest that keep accruing.

By the time a letter arrives, something has usually already changed on the account: an assessment, a proposed adjustment, or a penalty has been recorded. Responding by the deadline on the letter keeps the most options open.

Why timing matters.

Acting before the IRS moves to enforced collection usually leaves more resolution pathways open.

  • See IRS account changes as they post to your transcript
  • More resolution options when acting early
  • Less accrued penalty and interest when a balance is addressed sooner
  • Full representation: the IRS deals with us unless you choose otherwise

Our Approach

Account Monitoring: See What Your IRS Record Shows

With your power of attorney, Arc & Ledger pulls your IRS account transcripts on a regular cycle, detecting changes and potential issues that can appear on the transcript before a related notice is mailed. That gives you time to respond instead of reacting to a letter.

Changes as They Post

We see potential audits, new liabilities, lien filings, or compliance changes when they post to your IRS record.

Time to Respond

Seeing a change early gives time to gather records and respond, and some issues can be addressed before they reach the collection stage.

Year-Round Account Monitoring

With account monitoring, transcript changes are reviewed on a regular cycle during the year instead of being discovered only when a letter arrives.

Our Process

How a Resolution Engagement Works

01

Case Review

Each case starts with a confidential intake conversation. We listen to your situation, explain your rights and options, and determine which path fits before quoting the work.

02

Analysis

Once engaged, we file a Power of Attorney with the IRS and pull your complete tax records. We analyze your transcripts and financial history to identify the full scope of the issue and the resolution options available.

03

Strategy & Execution

We present a written plan and the costs involved. Once approved, we carry out the plan, handling all IRS communications, paperwork, and negotiations on your behalf.

04

Resolution & Protection

Once your case is resolved, we walk you through the terms and what you need to do to stay compliant. Watchdog Monitoring is available if you want the account watched after the case closes.

How timing affects your options

What changes the longer a balance sits

Penalties and interest keep accruing on unpaid tax until it is paid. The IRS generally has 10 years to collect, and its collection tools include bank levies, wage garnishments, federal tax liens, and, for seriously delinquent tax debt, certification that can affect a passport.

Acting earlier usually keeps more options open, such as a payment plan before collection escalates. The right step depends on your notices and your filing history.

Look up your IRS notice

How penalties add up

When a return is neither filed nor paid, penalties and interest can add 25% or more to the original tax within the first year. Filing on time, even without full payment, avoids the larger of the two penalties.

§The Ledger Review

How every engagement is checked

Every engagement runs through the same written procedure. It is the reason the fee is what it is, and you can hold us to it.

  1. 1Scope and fee in writing before any work begins.
  2. 2Documents arrive through the secure client portal, not as email attachments.
  3. 3A second review on a different day, against a written checklist, before anything is filed.
  4. 4If the IRS writes about a return we prepared, reviewing the notice with you is free. Any response or representation beyond that review is quoted in writing first.
