A Second Opinion, in Writing

Most people file their tax return and move on. Returns prepared with software or in a hurry can contain errors: missed deductions, incorrect filing statuses, overlooked credits, and improper reporting of investment or business income. Some of those errors cost you money; others leave a position the IRS may question later.

Our Tax Review service analyzes your previously filed returns with the same level of detail we bring to our own preparation work. If everything checks out, you have that confirmed in writing. If we find issues, you get a clear path to fixing them and recovering any overpayment.

Every tier comes with a written report of our findings, and there is no obligation to move forward with any additional services. The review stands on its own.

When a Review Can Help

  • You used a low-cost preparer and are not sure everything was captured.
  • Your financial situation has become more complex (new business, rental property, investments) and you are not sure if your taxes reflect that.
  • You filed yourself using software and wonder if you answered all the questions correctly.
  • You suspect you might be overpaying in taxes but do not know where to start looking.
  • You have foreign accounts or assets and are not confident your international reporting is correct.

If any of these apply, a review gives you a written answer about your return.

  • Preparation of federal amended return (Form 1040-X)
  • State amended returns as needed
  • All supporting forms and schedules
  • Summary of changes and expected refund or balance

Best for: Clients whose review identified errors worth correcting.

How It Works

Here is what to expect from the process.

01

Submit Your Information

Fill out our intake form and upload your most recent tax return through our secure Client Portal. We will review your situation and recommend the right tier for you.

02

We Analyze Your Return

An Enrolled Agent reviews your return line by line, checking for errors, missed deductions, incorrect calculations, and compliance issues specific to your situation.

03

Receive Your Report

You get a written report with a Tax Health Score, a summary of findings, and specific recommendations, written in plain English.

04

Decide Your Next Steps

If we find issues, we will present your options clearly. Whether that means filing an amendment, starting a planning engagement, or simply filing with more confidence next year.

Hypothetical Example: From a $199 Review to an Amendment

Hypothetical Example

Suppose a client orders a Quick Check to make sure their return was done right, and the review identifies over $12,000 in missed deductions, translating to a $2,900 federal refund based on their tax bracket.

$199

Quick Check Review

$750

Amendment to Claim Refund

From $1,497

Tax Planning Engagement

Total cost: $2,446 at the published floors. In this hypothetical, the amendment recovers a $2,900 refund, nearly covering the cost of the review and amendment combined, and the planning engagement identifies strategies projected to save over $8,000 in the following tax year. Not every review leads to an amendment, and individual results vary based on your specific tax situation.

§The Ledger Review

How every engagement is checked

Every engagement runs through the same written procedure. It is the reason the fee is what it is, and you can hold us to it.

  1. 1Scope and fee in writing before any work begins.
  2. 2Documents arrive through the secure client portal, not as email attachments.
  3. 3A second review on a different day, against a written checklist, before anything is filed.
  4. 4If the IRS writes about a return we prepared, reviewing the notice with you is free. Any response or representation beyond that review is quoted in writing first.
